International Mother Language Day Celebrated in Chandigarh

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—With Professor Dharennavar’s efforts, the International Mother Language Day was celebrated in a unique way by different religious followers in Chandigarh. Cycle yatra was carried by the group which was led by Panditrao Dharennavar who has been trying to implement Punjabi language as as official language in Chandigarh Administration.

The cycle yatra was started from Sri Guru Anagad Dev ji Gurdwara, Sector 42, and went up to Adviser’s house in sector 7 to submit memorandum.

The memorandum was seeking Punjabi medium government school in Chandigarh. Panditrao, assistant professor in government college said after the cycle yatra that” I will make sure that there is Punjabi Medium government school in Chandigarh and official language status to Punjabi Language.”

Professor Panditrao Dharennavar is a native of Karnataka.

  1. I hope that Esperanto was not forgotten on International Mother Language Day. Esperanto is a planned language which belongs to no one country or group of states. Using it brings speakers of different mother tongues together without having to resort to English or a strong regional language.
