National Minorities Commission to Take Up The Issue of Sikh Political Prisoners

LUDHIANA, Punjab—National Minorities Commission of India (NMCI) member Dr. Ajaib Singh has stated that the commission would make efforts to ensure permanent release of Sikh political prisoners languishing in various jails of India despite completion of their terms.

He was talking with a delegation of Universal Human Rights Organization (UHRO) led by president Satnam Singh Dhaliwal. The delegation included UHRO secretary Ravinder Singh Waraich, Manjit Singh Nagla, Karam Singh Chohan, Niranjan Singh Mann, Bharpur Singh Mann and Taranjit Singh.

Dr. Ajaib Singh said that he is struggling already for the rights and interests of Sikhs.

The delegation handed over list of 82 Sikh prisoners prepared by human rights activist Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur. Among those prisoners, 13 have completed their imprison terms.

Besides urging the commission members to take up the issue, the delegation appealed them to direct Punjab government to form the commission to resolve the issue properly.
