FREMONT, CA, USA—Sikh activists, along with the daughter of Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa, Sonu Dhillon, today met the US Congressman Mike Honda to seek the intervention of the US Government in ensuring the release and rights of Sikh political prisoners who have been detained without charge or reason.  Local Sikhs also met with other Government officials and have requested their intervention.

It is important to mention that Bapu Surat Singh is an elderly Sikh from the USA, who is peacefully protesting for the rights of Sikh prisoners in India.  Him, along with his family members who are the citizens of the United States are being harassed by the police there.

In addition to meetings with Government officials, local Sikh youth from all over California have been raising awareness of Bapu Surat Singh’s campaign.  Sikh volunteers have been passing out postcards, flyers and other information to the Sikh sangat at local Gurdwaras.  Similar initiatives have also been carried out at universities across the State by Sikh student bodies.
