CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Authorities of Model Burail jail have withdrawn facilities provided to Babbar Khalsa activist Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara. Eleven years ago, Bhai Tara along with his fellows, lived in Barrack number 7 of the jail with many facilities that were provided to them.

Now, Bhai Tara is living under surveillance of CCTV cameras in special cell.  He is also not being allowed to watch TV, listen to radio and read newspapers.  He is also barred from performing any exercises.

Inspector general (Jail) AS Cheema himself oversees the security arrangements closely after arrival of Bhai Tara.

It is worth mentioning that on January 22, 2004, Bhai Tara along with his aides namely Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara, Bhai Parmjit Singh Bheora and Devi Singh, absconded by digging 94 feet long tunnel.

As per report of investigation committee constituted under the then Delhi Police commissioner RS Gupta, Devi Singh, convict in another murder case, worked as cook for the trio. He prepared various dishes for trio.

The report reads that the personnel found 229 different items including clothes, 2 TVs, tap recorder etc. from that barrack after they absconded. The report alleges that all the facilities had been provided violating the jail rules. It further reads that due to negligence of concerned agencies this practice continued.
