Former Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Giani Balwant Singh Nandgarh had been a target of the Badal Government due to his stand in favor of the Nanashahi Calendar. The executive body of SGPC suspended Jathedar Nandgarh from his post on the request of more than 150 members of SGPC. On the eve of departure of Jathedar Nandgarh from his post, a large Panthik caravan visited him to give respect for his services. The departure ceremony of Jathedar Balwant Singh Nandgarh from his post became historical. The leaders of all Panthik organizations pledged on this occasion to establish the sovereignty of Sri Akal Takht Sahib among the Sikh nation and to finish the influence of RSS on Sikh issues. Activists of prominent Sikh organizations like Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), Shiromani Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani) etc. addressed the devotees during the departure program of Jathedar Balwant Singh Nandgarh. Bhai Dhian Singh Mand also announced to honor Jathedar Nandgarh during the birthday anniversary of Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale on 12th February.
