AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Commenting on the termination of services of Jathedar Balwant Singh Nandgarh, Karnail Singh Panjoli has said that the Nanakshahi Calendar signifies of the distinctness of the Sikh community and the radical Hindu elements are planning conspiracies for its permanent removal. The suspension of Jathedar Balwant Singh Nandgarh is also part of this conspiracy.
Many Panthik organizations have opposed the termination of Jathedar Nandgarh from his post. It is notable that SGPC member Karnail Singh Panjoli and Sukhdev Singh Bhaur did not participate in the meeting of the executive body of SGPC. These members also expressed their opposition on the implementation of the altered Nanakshahi Calendar in January, 2010.
Different organizations have opposed the decision of the executive body of SGPC. Former President of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee and President of Akali Dal (Delhi) said that he will take legal notice of this decision of SGPC and will file a case against SGPC in the Supreme Court.
Former Jathedar Giani Kewal Singh and Dal Khalsa condemned the decision of the executive body of SGPC. Spokesperson of Dal Khalsa S. Kanwarpal Singh said that this decision of SGPC is purely immoral and unconstitutional.
