CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Jagmeet Singh Brar, one of the senior leaders of the Congress Working Committee, is ready to resign from the committee on Monday January 5. Rumor has it that Brar will address the press tomorrow in Chandighar where he is expected to announce his resignation.

Jagmeet Singh Brar was suspended about six months ago when he attempted to speak against the Gandhi family after the deflating defeat of Congress in the Lok Sabha elections. Brar however said that he didn’t speak against Sonia or Rahul Gandhi and that he had only proposed some steps to further strengthen the party. There are rumors that Brar was in touch with the BJP top brass but he hasn’t spoken much about his future with them and has made it clear that he wont be joining any political outfit any time soon.

Brar said he would call upon the right minded people in all the political parties including the Congress and the SAD who feel muzzled due to the domination of the dynasties and royalty. Brar said he wants to assess the mood of the people in the state before taking a final decision. The Congress leader came to the forefront of Punjab politics when he defeated Sukhbir Badal from Faridkot Lok Sabha constituency in 1999 elections.
