SAD Demands the Ban of Opium to Prime Minister Modi

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) have impelled the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to direct the Rajasthan government to stop and ban the selling of opium as Punjab is suffering because of the Rajasthan’s government policy to earn profits from selling opium. SAD senior leaders Maheshinder Singh Grewal and Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema stated that its very unfortunate that the Rajasthan government have given a license to more then 17,000 vends to sell opium. They further stated that opium being made available and open in Rajasthan is also being illegally smuggled into Punjab which is having a bad affect on the state.

“This is causing social unrest in Punjab and needs to be addressed immediately,” said SAD leaders. They further added that any law that applauds the addiction of opium and leads to smuggling it to a neighboring state should be terminated at once. The SAD leaders also stated that the demand that all opium agronomy be stopped in Rajasthan and Madhya Pardesh. “Opium being produced in both states is finding its way into Punjab,” said the SAD leaders.

The SAD leaders have also demanded that Narendra Modi have the international border between Pakistan and Punjab be sealed. They also said that even though drugs weren’t produced in Punjab that the BSF and the Centre should take steps to stop the drug trafficking from the border as it is being guarded by them. Drug trafficking from across the border as well as smuggling of drugs into Punjab from Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh could fuel a narc terrorism and it is in the country’s best interest to put a stop to this immediately.
