Signature Campaign Launched in Pakistan for Petition to be Sent to White House

2014-12-04-petitionPAKISTAN, South Asia—Issue of section 25 (2) (b) of Indian constitution which denies the separate identity of Sikhism has reached Pakistan as local Sikh organizations have kicked off a signature campaign for the petition to be sent to President Obama to take up the issue.

Through the petition, the USA President will be appealed to ask Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as to why the Indian Constitution denies the independent identity of Sikhism.

As per information available, Sikh Research & Study Centre (SRSC) and Young Sikh Panthers (YSP) have launched the campaign in Pakistan. SRSC member Gurmit Singh said they had become part of the campaign initiated by US based Sikh advocacy group Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) following the Ardas done by them at Gurdwara Nanakana Sahib.

He said they would be visiting all provinces and cities of the country with the motive of getting signatures for the petition and they hoped to succeed in meeting their aim.

YSP president Dilawar Singh said that the Indian government is terming Sikhs as part of Hinduism despite the fact that people across the world know that Sikhs are separate nation. Describing about conspiracies being engineered to kill the original Nanakshahi Calendar, he said Sikhs based in the country would continue to recognize this Calender implemented in 2003 at Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Talwandi Sabo.
