AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—The process of replacing the amended Nanakshahi Calender to the traditional Bikrami Calender is most likely to be started from Dec 22 by making further amendments in it.
On Dec 22, a delegation of ‘Sant Samaj’ will meet Sri Akal Takht Sahib appointed Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh with a memorandum.
On the other hand, Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani) leader Baldev Singh Sirsa said the matter of amendment in Nanakshahi Calender is under consideration in Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission and at this stage, no decision could be taken in this regard.
In its memorandum, ‘Sant Samaj’ will demand further amendments in the already amended Nanakshahi Calender. As per internal sources, on the basis of the memorandum, the process of replacing the Nanakshahi Calender to the Bikrami Calender would start. A committee could also be constituted by the appointed Jathedar which would recommend a re-implementation of the Bikrami Calender.
It is pertinent to mention that same procedure was followed when amendments were made as per the Bikrami Calender in 2010 meeting at the demand of ‘Sant Samaj’. At that time, the Jathedar had appointed a two-member committee comprising SGPC head Makkar and ‘Sant Samaj’ leader Harnam Singh Dhumma. The amended Calender created deep confusion among Sikhs particularly in respect to the days of celebration of various Sikh occasions.
Meanwhile, Baldev Singh Sirsa said that he filed a petition in Gurdwara Judicial Commission against amendments in the Calender in 2010 which is under consideration. He said that the decision of implementing Nanakshahi Calender was passed by general house and executive panel had no right to amend or reject the Calendar. He said any further amendments would not be accepted by Sikhs and would be opposed.

On one hand there is Petition with White House that Sikhs are not Hindus. On the other hand, Nanakshahi Calander is being made as per the Bikrami Calander.
