Sikh Bodies Seek Rigid Action Against Navjot Sidhu for Disrespect of Gurbani

Navjot SidhuAMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Various Sikh organizations have demanded strong action against former cricketer and BJP star campaigner Navjot Sidhu for committing sacrilege of Gurbani. All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) and Sikh Students Federation (Mehta) has urged Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar to summon Sidhu and punish him as per the Sikh code of conduct.

AISSF president Bhai Karnail Singh Peermohammad has sent a letter to appointed Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib which reads, “A very serious issue is being brought to your notice. Three time MP from Amritsar Navjot Singh Sidhu has committed desecration of the holy Gurbani of fifth Guru Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji by relating it with Arjun, a character of Mahabharat, a Hindu scripture. The recorded CD which is enclosed is evidence. You are requested to listen to this CD carefully and summon Sidhu without any delay granting him punishment. This will be a lesson for all and nobody will commit such kind of a blunder again.”

The letter further reads, “We also feel that Navjot Singh Sidhu did so as per direction of RSS as the latter is making persistent efforts to hit Sikh principles by increasing its activities in Punjab. If requisite action would not be taken at the earliest, other elements would be ready to commit such blunders. We hope you will take serious steps promptly.”

Meanwhile, leaders of SSF (M) on Tuesday submitted a complaint to the Jathedar making him aware of the desecration committed by the saffron party leader in a function at Ludhiana. In addition, according to various media reports, protests have been staged against the blasphemy by various Sikh organizations including Sikh Students Federation (Grewal) at many places of Punjab.
