Joint Panthic Platform

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Various Sikh groups on Saturday organized a convention on a large scale and resolved to form a ‘Sanjha Panthik Manch’ (Joint Panthik Platform).

Addressing the convention, the Sikh leaders and intellectuals alleged that while Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Badal has totally neglected the Panthik agenda, Rashtrya Swamsewak Sangh (RSS) has begun the campaign of establishing its roots in Punjab.

A resolution was passed to raise awareness for Panthik concerns, and the responsibility was assigned to former IAS officer Gurtej Singh, Dr. Gurdarshan Singh Dhillon and former IPS Shashi Kant.  These members of the Manch would make make proposals by coordinating with other concerned organizations with the motive of occupying the vacuum prevailed in the Sikh Panth.

During the convention, it was decided to hold another meeting after a month during which the principles, aims and nature of the proposed platform would be finalized. It would also be decided in the meeting whether the platform be politicized or chalk out the programme of raising the Panthik issues by apolitical ways.

The Sikh intellectuals alleged that sidelining the Panthik agenda, Shiromani Akali Dal and Badals had fully adopted the dynastic agenda at the cost of Panthik norms. Panch Pardhani leader Bhai Harpal Singh Cheema said RSS is making serious efforts to spread the roots of Derawad which is already considered as big threat to Sikhi.

Pertinently, Punjab Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khehra also attended the convention. He said that to ensure survival of Sikh principles, the formation of such a platform is the need of the hour.
