AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—After receiving complaints from various Sikh organizations regarding the new date for Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s parkash purab, the appointed Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh has stated that Sikhs who wish to celebrate the Gurpurab on December 28th were not barred from doing so.  The date was earlier changed because of the conflict with the date of martyrdom of the younger Sahibzaade.

Sikhs have been left perplexed over why the Jathedar didn’t ask Sikhs to celebrate the Gurpurab on January 5th, the date as per the Nanakshahi calendar.

The recent statement by the Jathedar allowing Sikhs to celebrate the Gurpurab in December has now left sangat divided with three days to commemorate the parkash of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.  Various Gurdwaras had already declared to hold celebrations on January 5th (original Nanakshahi), while others were contemplating following the Akal Takht Sahib aadesh to hold celebrations on January 7th.  However, now many will be delighted to celebrate as per December 28th.
