AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—With the motive of providing a political alternative to the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal)-Bhartya Janta Party nexus in Punjab, another Akali Dal faction named “United Akali Dal” was formed by the leaders of various Sikh organizations.

A huge gathering was witnessed at Guru Nanak Bhawan which was attended by representatives of Panthik organizations, Dalit organizations and retired Government officers during the formation ceremony of the organization.

It is notable that leaders of United Sikh Movement (USM) and Insaaf Lehar (IL) have played leading role in setting up of new Akali Dal. While announcing the United Akali Dal, the USM and IL were dissolved. For taking further action, 25 member ad-hoc coordination committee was also announced for new Akali Dal. Bhai Mohkam Singh will convene the committee, whereas Gurdeep Singh Bathinda will be secretary and Dr. Bhagwan Singh will be chief advisory of the committee.

Other members are Swaran Singh IAS, Buta Singh Ransheeh, Jatinder Singh Isru, Hameed Masih chairman Punjab Christian Movement, Dr. Anvar Ahmed, Swarn Singh Bauria Samaj, Sita Ram Deepak, Gurnam Singh Chandigarh, Surinder Singh Ghariala, Satnam Singh Manawa, Bhai Balwant Singh Gopala, Bibi Pritam Kaur, Jaswinder Singh Ghaulia, Baba Chamkaur Singh, Bahadar Singh Rahon, Ajmer Singh Boparai, Kulwant Singh Machhike and Parmjit Singh Gaure Nangal.

Bhai Mohkam Singh and Gurdeep Singh Bathinda said that organizational structure would be announced within a month after consulting with religious and social personalities and Sant Samaj. A booklet of aims and objectives of the new party was also released.

Passing the resolutions, the leaders of new party termed SAD-BJP and Congress as two sides of same coin. They demanded Indian government to deliver the promises made by Mohan Das Karamchand Gandhi and Jwahar Lal Nehru to delimit a territory in north India where Sikhs could enjoy the freedom. They also repeated the demand of giving Chandigarh and other Punjabi speaking areas back to Punjab. They sought to stop exploitation of river water of Punjab and hand over management board of Bhakhra Dam in the hands of Punjab.

The gathering was addressed by Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal, Bibi Pritam Kaur, Soorat Singh Khalsa, Bhai Bahadar Singh Rahon, Giani Devinder Singh Damdami Taksal, Baba Chamkaur Singh Bhai Rupa, Wassan Singh Jaffarwal etc.

Headquarter of the party will be at Sri Amritsar, a sub-office in Chandigarh and a camp office in Bathinda.

    • what nonsense, has vassan singh zaffarwal Rose from the dead, he is a traitor who fled from the Sikh independence movement years ago. he was the leader of khalistan commando force and instead of being imprisoned he has been living like a king in Panjab, he made others to sacrifice their lives for the movement
