HARYANA, India—While speaking to Punjab’s Surinder Singh, Bhai Gurbaksh Singh cleared a number of misconceptions related to his previous hunger strike. He stated that last time he ended his hunger strike only after promises were made by the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. He was further pressed by Sikhs living worldwide to end his hunger strike.
“However, this time I am not going to give up my demands, I am here to die for the freedom of all prisoners who have completed their sentences.”
He added, “I promise to the Sikh sangat that I be true to my words with your prayers. If I back out again this time, who is going to trust me?”
Bhai Gurbaksh Singh stated that he has hopes that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will press the Punjab Government to release the Singhs, who have spent their lives locked up in prison.
