Guru Nanak set out to uphold the principles of equality, justice and humanity between all people regardless of religion, caste, colour, creed, age, gender or social status.
Charandeep Singh, General Secretary, the Glasgow Gurdwara said:
“Langar is a revolutionary concept and lets people from all backgrounds eat, learn and share together and promotes equality between all. Here at the Glasgow Gurdwara we serve up to 3,000 meals a week all cooked by local volunteers using local ingredients, acting as an opportunity to carry out Seva, Selfess Service in the community. We were delighted to welcome Tom & James to the Gurdwara and hope more people will join us for food in the future.”
James Morton, Great British Bake Off Finalist said,
“Having visited the Glasgow Gurdwara today I have left with a new found passion for how different communities use food. Langar is very much a core part of what every Gurdwara offers and I was lucky enough to work with local volunteers in the kitchen and even managed to add my own twist to the Chapatti by adding in sweet beetroot!”
Tom Morton, food blogger and radio presenter said,
“The Glasgow Gurdwara is an impressive building but inside it is even more so. I enjoyed such a warm welcome from everyone in the Gurdwara and I was fascinated to see how food is used by the Scottish Sikh community. The Langar was exceptionally tasty!”
