LEICESTER, UK—Falcons Primary School today opened its doors and welcomed its first pupils into newly refurbished buildings at Gipsy Lane, Leicester.
The school is opening to reception and year one children and over time will grow to be a 420 pupil primary school. The Sikh ethos school is opening under the Governments Free Schools programme and will provide for Leicester children from all backgrounds with at least 50% of places available for non-Sikh children.
Head teacher, Ms Jasbir Mann said, “The staff and I are looking forward to welcoming the first pupils into the school and getting to know the parents. Everybody has worked hard to ensure the classrooms are ready and we have everything in place to ensure a stimulating and exciting learning experience for the children. Over the next few weeks we’ll be implementing the new curriculum as well as introducing after school activities. There is so much to look forward to!”
Chair of Trustees, Inderjit Singh Panesar said, “The opening of the school is a dream come true for parents and the local community. Our aim is to provide the highest quality of education supported by universal values and virtues which are underpinned by our Sikh faith ethos.”
He added, “I am grateful to the many people who have worked extremely hard to bring the school to fruition and to the parents who are entrusting the education of their children to us. In particular I would like to thank Rt Hon Nicky Morgan MP and Lord Nash for maintaining confidence in our vision and team, Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP for all his support and encouragement, other Leicester MP’s and Councillors including Jonathan Ashworth MP, Sir Edward Garnier QC MP, Liz Kendall MP, City Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby, Cllr Vi Dempster and Cllr Piara Singh Clair MBE for all their support and the Governors, Head teacher and staff of Abbey Primary Community School whose support has been invaluable.
