We are shocked and saddened by today’s events in Ottawa.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Cpl. Nathan Cirillo who lost his life in the service of his country today.  We stand in solidarity with all Canadians in condemning these kinds of heinous attacks.  We also salute Sgt. at Arms Kevin Vickers for his bravery and quick action in preventing any more innocent lives from being lost.

Cpl. Nathan Cirillo was a 24-year-old reservist serving in Hamilton from the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada regiment.  He was shot a little before 10 a.m. today when a masked gunman opened fire at the Ottawa Memorial where Cirillo was one of two reservists standing guard.  The gunman identified as Canada born Michael Zehaf-Bibeau was killed on his way to the Parliament building by the Sgt. at Arms Kevin Vickers.
