The Indian City of Palitana has become the first city in the world to ban the slaughter of meat and outlawed the sale of meat and eggs. The ban comes after Jain Monks led a Hunger Strike, which pressured the Gujarat State Government to take action and ban the sale of meat and eggs in the city.
There are about 4.2 million Jains in India, 0.4% of the population of India. On the other hand, there are 21.5 million Sikhs in India, five times more than the number of Jains. Having said that, Sikhs have time and time again asked for the same ban to be implemented in Amritsar Sahib. Their requests have been denied every single time. There is alcohol, meat, fish and eggs served near Darbar Sahib in Amritsar.
There is a long history of double standards in India by the Hindu majority governments. Sikhs have always been treated as second-class citizens while Hindus, and now Jains, are given preferential treatment.
Folks, with due respect, Jains are strict vegetarians while Sikhs take pride in showing off their non-veg preferences. Let us not give everything an unnecessary political hue.
2nd. Jains, despite their significant economic clout, steer away from active politics (as a community). We Sikhs on the other hand, have politics in each and every Gurdwara and busy fighting each other.

Its totally a wrong news.. Katra is already their ….the holy city of Jammu region of Jammu Kashmir…. non veg & alchohal is banned here almost from 80 years….

Sikhs are not vegetarians. So they dont need to protest for vegitarian land.
Even guru nanak dev ji cook dear meat in hariduar on the time of solar eclips to clear hindhu myth that they believe not to cook food

I am from Amritsar and live very near to Golden temple. Regarding your post above i would like to tell you that there was no pressure from community to make city purely vegetarian. Hence it is still like that.
Moreover there is no Hindu majority government there in Punjab it is in hands if Sikh CM and mostly Sikh cabinet.
If Gujarat government has made that city pure veg then in Punjab also Punjab government has to make Amritsar pure veg.
We in Amritsar live together hindus and sikhs. Please don’t spread rumours and hatred.

Before demanding such a ban, sikhs should stop consuming meat and alcohol. it has been reported that many sikhs had used alcohol in SGPC buildings around Darbar Sahib. Sikh should stop being so hypocrite.
Highest % of sikh eat meat and drink alcohol and you want to ban sale of meat in Amritsar.
