Baba Balbir Singh Lambejatpura Framed in False Case and Sentenced to Five Years in Prison

2014-10-16- BALBIR SINGH LAMBEJATPURALUDHIANA, Punjab—In July 2014, a Ludhiana Sessions Court sentenced three Gursikhs to five years each in prison; Balbir Singh, Kuljit Singh ‘Kanta’ and Bhag Singh were falsely accused and charged under the Arms & Explosives Act in a case registered against them in September 2009. Two others in the case, Lakhwinder Singh and Harjinder Singh were fortunately cleared of all charges.

48 year old Balbir Singh is married to Gursharan Kaur and they have a young daughter, Japsimran Kaur. Sikh Relief (SOPW) is committed to providing family welfare costs as well as paying for Balbir Singh’s legal aid.

Balbir Singh has already spent 13 months in police custody whilst awaiting trial in this case, so there are a further 3 years and 11 months of his sentence remaining. Sikh Relief, together with the sangat, stand by Balbir Singh and his family through the difficult ordeal they are facing.
