KARNAL, Haryana, India—Going against the official decision of the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) of supporting Congress in the state assembly elections, its member Amrinder Singh Arora and his aides have declared to support BJP, Hindu right wing political outfit. Arora made the announcement in a Sikh rally organized at Jalmana village here.

HSGMC is officially giving support to the Congress as it formed a separate committee for the rights of Haryana Sikhs.

Arora has made an appeal to the state’s Sikhs to back the BJP in Assandh.

Assaulting the Congress for using the Sikh Community as a vote bank, he alleged during the controlling process of a Gurdwara Sahib in Kurukshetra a few days ago that atrocities were committed to Sikhs, but no action had been taken by the state government in this regard. He said the inaction had hurt the Sikh sentiments.

Alleging HSGMC president Jagdish Singh Jhinda and Vice President Didar Singh Nalvi without mentioning their names, he said that some of the community leaders had been working as agents of the Congress and they had betrayed the Sikh community for their personal ends.

Arora, accompanied by Sikh leaders Balwinder Singh, Balbir Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Amarjeet Singh and Gurbaksh Singh, said they had decided to extend their support to the BJP as it had never insulted the Sikh community.

He demanded that Jhinda should issue the details of youths of the community who had been provided jobs by the Congress government.

Reacting to Arora’s decision, Jhinda said, “Our decision to give support to the Congress is firm and Arora cannot take any decision on behalf of the HSGMC. We had taken our decision earlier in the presence of other members of the committee. We will raise this issue in the committee and demand action against Arora.”
