Akali Dal Fields Former SGPC Member from Kalanwali in Haryana Assembly Elections

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Amid an intense campaign by Haryana Shiromani Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) in support of Congress for the upcoming state assembly polls, the SAD has fielded former Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) member Balkaur Singh from Kalanwali constituency of Sirsa district. Singh is a resident of the same constituency.

SAD will be contesting from two seats – Ambala City and Kalanwali – for the upcoming assembly polls in alliance with INLD. The party has not yet declared a candidate for Ambala City. INLD is contesting on the remaining 88 assembly seats of Haryana.

Sikhs have a significant presence in around 20 assembly seats in Haryana and by fielding a former SGPC member from Kalanwali, Badal hopes to benefit the alliance in all of these constituencies. “Yes, it will be an advantage for us in these 20 constituencies,” claimed SAD general secretary Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal.
