Deadly attack on Sikh driver: Delhi police lodges FIR against assailants after protests

NEW DELHI—After protest staged by Sikhs, Delhi police has lodged first information report (FIR) under sections 365/ 326A/ 307/ 295A/ 435/ 34 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the perpetrators of the attack carried out against Sikh driver here. The FIR was registered against Somnath Nayar and two other unidentified persons in this case.

The Sikh driver named Ranjit Singh, 60, of Bhogal area, was assaulted by some unidentified men.  Latter not only beat him, but also threw acid on his body and cut his hair by removing his dastar.  The assault has left religious sentiments of Sikhs deeply injured.

Sikhs condemned this incident, terming it as attack on entire community. Local Sikhs also staged protest outside Nizamuddin Police Station against police inaction in this case.

The F.I.R number 520 dated: 16/09/2014 was registered at Hazarat Nizamudin police station at 00:55 hrs (IST).

Victim has registered his statement to police wherein he said that he was attacked by Somnath Nayar and two others at Lodhi Road traffic lights at around 6 pm. The police says that the case is being investigated. As per sources, no culprit has so far been arrested by police.
