Baba Daduwal Granted Bail; Detention Continues In Other Cases

daduwalFARIDKOT, Punjab—The court of additional sessions judge Karnail Singh has granted bail to renowned Sikh preacher Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal and his two companions—Rajinder Singh and Ranbir Singh.  The three were arrested in relation to a case which was registered against them by Jaito police on August 21, 2009.  Despite the bail, their detention will continue as three more cases are still pending.

Daduwal’s counsel Kulinder Singh on Thursday produced licenses of all the weapons issued by Bathinda deputy commissioner.  Kulinder Singh said that after getting bail in one case, bail applications in other cases will also be moved soon, adding that all the cases are politically motivated for playing active role in the formation of Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC), and taking control of Guhla Cheeka Gurdwara.

Baba Daduwal faces two cases of attempt to murder at Jaito and Bhikhi in Mansa. These cases pertain to clashes with the followers of Sirsa-based anti-Sikh cult registered in 2009 and 2011. He also faces another case under the Arms Act in Mansa. Allegedly, all the cases have been reopened against him as part of deep conspiracy by the state government.
