Panth Observes Martyrdom of Bhai Dilawar Singh at Akal Takht Sahib

shaheed_dilawar_singh_babbarAMRITSAR, Punjab—Shaheed Bhai Dilawar Singh, who had sacrificed his life through the assassination of the Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, was remembered on his martyrdom day at a religious function at Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

After the Bhog ceremony of the Sri Akhand Path held in the memory of the national martyr (Kaumi Shaheed), the Hazoori Ragi Jatha of Bhai Baldev Singh Wadala performed Gurbani Kirtan. Giani Baldev Singh, Chief of a faction of Akhand Kirtani Jatha. read out the message of Bhai Wadhawa Singh Babbar, chief of Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), and Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara, Deputy Chief BKI (now lodged in Tihar Jail).

In their messages, both the Sikh freedom fighters emphasized the need in making persistent efforts for ensuring the release of the Sikhs political prisoners lodged in jails.

Those present on the occasion included Bhai Satnam Singh Paonta, Kanwarpal Singh, Sarabjit Singh Ghuman of Dal Khalsa, Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani) convener Bhai  Harpal Singh Cheema, Akali Dal (Amritsar) General Secretary Mohinder Pal Singh, Head Granthi Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Gurmukh Singh, Head Granthi Darbar Sahib Giani Jagtar Singh, Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) USA’s representative Bhai Pappalpreet Singh and Navdeep Singh, Harmandeep Singh Sarhali and Satinder Singh Plaasaur.

20140831_092352_resizedBhai Chamkaur Singh, brother of Bhai Dilawar Singh, was honoured with a siropa by Giani Jagtar Singh, head granthi of Sri Darbar Sahib Amritsar, amid the pro-independence slogans of “Khalistan Zindabad.” The Sikh organization has prepared a memorandum for installing the portrait of Bhai Dilawar Singh in the Central Sikh Museum, but none of the authorities of SGPC or Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib were there to accept the memorandum.

Bhai Dilwar Singh had laid his life to end CM Beant Singh’s tyrant regime that was responsible for unleashing the region of state-terror on people of Punjab. Bhai Dilwar Singh, along with Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara and Balwant Singh Rajoana, had acted out of existential concerns for the Sikh nation.
