Kenya: Gurdeep Leads Sikh Union to Third Win in Haril Shah Memorial Tourney

2014-08-19-cricketKENYA, AFRICA—National junior cricket team opening batsman Gurdeep Singh led Sikh Union to their third successive preliminary win of the Haril Shah Memorial tournament with a swashbuckling ton at Simba Union.

League champions Kanbis and other league sides – Swamibapa, Nairobi Gymkhana, Kongonis and Premier Club – also put their chances of qualifying to the semi finals of the event alive with crucial victories.

Gurdeep scored 132 off 75 balls as Sikh Union made 205 for 4 in the allotted 20 overs. The bowlers later on finished the work by restricting their opponents for 121 for 5 to register an 84 runs win.
Gurdeep was aided by Aman Gandhi who made 36 from 31 balls. Imran Hussein, who had picked up 2 for 15, finished his fine day on the pitch with 70 off 25 balls but this was not enough to hand his side their first victory of the tournament.
 
Dhiren Gondaria scored 55 from 45 balls as Kanbis beat Stray Lions by 7 wickets. Chasing 100, Kanbis reached the target in 14.3 overs, thanks to Gondaria’s half century.

Rakep Patel had picked 3 for 15 as Kanbis dismissed Stray Lions to 100. Hiren Varaiya and Steve Tikolo scored 35 and 29 runs respectively.

At Nairobi Gymkhana, the hosts Nairobi Gymkhana beat Cutchi Leva by 65 runs. Chasing 189, Cutchi Leva could only make 124 for 8, thanks to Vinit Shikotra’s and Nicholas Suji’s two wickets each. Karan Kaul and Tanmay Mishra topscored for Gymkhana with 47 and 43. At Nairobi Jaffrey’s, Chris Childs and Henry Rudd scored 43 and 36 to lead Kongonis to 115 runs win over Nairobi Gymkhana.

The two led Kongonis to 193 runs before two wickets each from Vip Kumar (2/0) and Dominic Wesonga (2/5) saw them restrict the hosts to 78 for 8.

At Premier Club, Nikhil Hirani bagged 4 for 17 to help Premier bowl out Ruaraka for 70 in 18.5 overs. In reply, Bansi Patel and Mitesh Patel scored 25 and 25 to lead their side a comfortable win.

At Ngara, Swamibapa beat Ngara Sports Club by 8 wickets in another low scoring match. Batting first, Ngara were bowled out for 74 in 17 overs a target that Swamibapa reached with 44 balls left for the loss of two wickets. Maurice Ouma (33) and Kevin Amwayi (29) were the top scorers for Swamibapa.
