Construction has begun on Sikh temple in Westborough, MA

WESTBOROUGH, Massachusetts, USA—Vantage Builders Inc. said Wednesday that construction has begun on a 21,000-square-foot Sikh temple in Westborough.

The new temple will be called Gurduara Sahib, and it will become the principal place of worship for the New England Sikh community, Waltham-based Vantage Builders said. The temple is for the The New England Sikh Study Circle, was established in 1968 to serve as a Sikh center for spiritual growth, political understanding, community activism, and social gathering.

The New England Sikh Study Circle which is currently located in Milford, purchased the 37-acre, wooded site in 2012. The full ground up construction project will include foundation, structural steel, masonry, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing work. The project is scheduled to be completed in early 2015, Vantage Builders said.

The new temple will house classrooms, meeting places of various sizes, a community kitchen able to serve up to 400 people, a library, and residences for the community’s leader.

The project team includes architects JG Associates and the engineering firms AKAL Engineering Inc., Waterman Design Associates Inc., and Rivermoor Engineering LLC.
