2014-08-13- khalsa school sloughSLOUGH, UK—The Slough Khalsa School Trust successfully held an annual camp which saw the attendance of over 300 Sikhs from the community. The daily family camp, held from August 4 to 6, aimed to engage 6-17 year olds within the local Sikh community.

Guest speakers – including Manvir Singh, Vijay Singh,  Baljit Singh, Roop Singh, and Raghbir Singh – came from all over the UK in order to teach and inspire campers about the Sikh faith.

In addition to learning about Sikhi, campers enjoyed a broad range of activities, including go-karting, water zorbing, scouts and a falconry bird display. Campers were also given the opportunity to enjoy a day trip to a Bournemouth seaside.

The theme of the camp this year was remembrance, in memory of the many Sikh soldiers who laid down their lives for the British during World War 1. Campers performed a meaningful and touching rap song in memory of the Sikh soldiers and the British army.  The RAF were also invited to deliver talks and to carry out drill exercises.

The camp was enjoyed by the young and old, and in September campers are due to receive awards and t-shirts dedicated to World War 1 heroes.
