SANGRUR, Punjab—After the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee demanded Bharat Ratna for Shaheed S. Bhagat Singh, Aam Aadmi Party MP Bhagwant Mann is now also supporting the demand. Bhagwant Mann has also asked that Shaheed Udham Singh and Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha be awarded Bharat Ratnas as well.
Bhagwant Mann condemned the practice of different political parties using the Bharat Ratna to award their own leaders. He said that Congress awarded the prestigious award to Rajiv Gandhi after he had came into power. He blamed the Bhartiya Janta Party for the same wrong-doing.
“Give the award to those who gave us bharat (India),” said Bhagwant Mann.
Mann stated that while political parties were awarding Bharat Ratnas, no one was thinking about the freedom fighters who fought for the freedom of India.
