Oak Creek USA Gurdwara To Hold Memorial Commemoration

Wisconsin CommemorationOAK CREEK, Wisconsin, USA—The Sikh Gurdwara of Oak Creek, Wisconsin, is planning to hold the second annual Sikh Memorial Commemoration from August 1st to 5th in memory of those who were killed in the attack in brutal attack in 2012 that left 6 dead.  The attack was carried out by a white supremacist Wage Michael Page.

On Friday, August 1st, Akhand Paat (48 hour non stop recitation of the Sikh holy scripture) will take place at 10:30 AM at the Oak Creek Gurdwara.  Throughout the five day commemoration, various other events will take place to honor the victims of the tragic shooting.  A six mile run/walk is also being organized in memory of the victims.  Registration for the walk is open online at www.ck6k.org.

Special kirtan (singing of hymns in meditation) program, along with a remembrance ceremony, and a congressional honors ceremony for LT. Brian Murphy, and Officer Sam Lenda at the Oak Creek Community Center is also being organized.

The events are being held to remember those who tragically lost their lives on August 5, 2012 when Page entered the Sikh Gurdwara of Oak Creek, Wisconsin, and opened fire. The gunman killed four people inside the Gurdwara, and two outside. The tragic event was referred to as an act of “Domestic Terrorism”.
