Nomination of Bibi Baljinder Kaur for Talwandi Sabo Seat Rejoiced by Sikhs and Others Alike

2014-07-01-baljinder_kaurTALWANDI SABO, Punjab—The decision by the Aam Aadmi Party to change nomination for the Talwandi Sabo seat has been rejoiced by Sikhs and non-Sikhs alike in Punjab and internationally.  A huge uproar was seen on social media networks against the nomination of Balkar Sidhu a few days ago in which party workers alleged that the singer is known for his immodest lyrics, and human trafficking.

The step by Aam Aadmi Party has been rejoiced largely, however many fans of Balkar Sidhu seem upset over the swift decision just one day before the nomination papers are due.

Baljinder Kaur is a lecturer at Mata Gujari College in Fatehgarh Sahib.  Similar to Balkar Sidhu, this will be Baljinder Kaur’s debut in elections. She comes from a well-respected family from Talwandi Sabo. Notably, her family has made several contributions to socio-political issues. Her family members faced much torture during the early 1990s.

Her father, S. Darshan Singh, was the village sarpanch and continues to be treated as a respectful figure. S. Darshan Singh was a forerunner in the state assembly elections in 2007, and SGPC in 2012, in which Bibi Baljinder Kaur played an eminent role in organizing his election campaigns.  He lost by a small number of votes in both elections.  S. Darshan Singh was illegally arrested, allegedly on behest of the Akali Dal during the SGPC elections in 2007.

Bibi Baljinder Kaur was also eminent in campaigning for a S. Harinder Singh Khalsa of Aam Aadmi Party in the recently contested Lok Sabha  elections.
