Excommunication Edict by Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Allegedly Drafted By Akali Leaders

AMRITSAR SAHIB—Taking a harsh decision on the issue of the separate Haryana Gurdwara Committee, appointed Jathedar, Giani Gurbachan Singh has excommunicated three Sikhs.  The decision by Giani Gurbachan Singh has been condemned by a number of Sikh organizations.  The Dal Khalsa, a Panthik Sikh organization based out of Amritsar, termed the edict as “unprincipled and declared it unacceptable”.

Dal Khalsa head H S Dhami, and spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh, stated that Akali Dal was directly responsible for the mess in the Sikh community.  They alleged that the recent hukamnama against Haryana Sikhs was drafted and finalized by the core committee of the Shiromani Akali Dal (B).

“Jagdish Singh Jhinda, Didar Singh Nalvi and third Sikh have been excommunicated arbitrarily and with no fault of theirs,” stated Kanwar Pal Singh.  “Asking for their right to manage gurdwaras independent of Badals was no way a sin”, he said.

Dal Khalsa leaders further said that Badals were unable to digest their moral defeat and in the desperation, they were all set to destroy the supremacy and sanctity of Akal Takht Sahib’s Jathedar.

Dal Khalsa leaders stated that a bad trend has been set by different Akali factions by seeking the help of BJP or Congress to settle their religious matters, like the management of Gurdwaras.
