“Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara’s Well-being Most Critical to Khalsa Panth” – Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa

NEW DELHI—While speaking with Sikh24 earlier today, Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa from Haryana, stated that “Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara is an iconic figure for the Sikhs and we will do everything to save his life.”

Bhai Gurbaksh Singh raised great concern over the lack of medical treatment being provided to Bhai Hawara who is imprisoned in Tihar Jail.  Bhai Khalsa is currently in New Delhi, supporting the hunger strike by Bhai Charanpreet Singh, President of the All India Sikh Youth Committee, who is striking in protest of Jathedar Hawara’s ill treatment by jail authorities.

Worsening Condition of Bhai Hawara

Bhai Gurbaksh Singh shared with Sikh24 that when he saw Bhai Hawara last time, he was confined to a wheelchair.  He “was barely able to stand for a few minutes without support.  They purposely don’t want to provide him medical treatment,” said Bhai Gurbaksh Singh.

Bhai Hawara has endured great torture in jail, which is the main cause of his suffering from pain in his spine and left leg.

Bhai Gurbaksh Singh has appealed to the entire Sikh Nation to take the issue of Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara’s health as “most critical.”  “We should do everything to seek his medical treatment by specialist doctors,” said Bhai Khalsa. 

“Currently Bhai Hawara has been prescribed some pain killers and internal medical staff of the Tihar Jail is overseeing his condition, however this is not acceptable.  We want his condition to be fully diagnosed and x-rays should be taken to make sure he is able to walk again,” he added.

Bhai Charanpreet Singh’s Hunger Strike Concludes Third Day

The hunger strike by Bhai Charanpreet Singh concluded its 3rd day at Jantar Mantar.  He has announced that he will fast until Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara is not provided medical treatment. 

The All India Sikh Youth Committee has sent memorandums to the office of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Pranab Mukherjee, Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan, and appointed Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Gurbachan Singh.
