SANGRUR, Punjab—Responding to a statement issued by the SGPC, Aam Aadmi Party leader Bhagwant Mann has stated that he would apologize to the Sikh sangat, but not to the SGPC. He termed the SGPC as “golak chors” and alleged that the punishment given to Akali Dal Minister Bikram Majithia was not enough. Mann stated that Majithia had inserted a politicians name into Gurbani and was forgiven in only two days.
Mann alleged that the video that was in question was from a function held at least 7-8 years ago and if required, he would apologize when asked by the Sikh Sangat.
The SGPC had asked Bhagwant Mann to apologize for changing the ardas dohra deliberately. Bhagwant Mann was accompanied by a number of a Punjabi singers when he altered the dohra “Raj Karega Khalsa” to say “Marasi Rahe Na Koi”.
Although Bikram Majithia had committed an unpardonable mistake by changing Gurbani, Bhagwant Mann needs to realize that it is not okay to change Gurbani under any circumstances whats so ever. As alleged, Majithia might have been forgiven due to political pressure, however Mann should offer an unconditional apology to the Sikh community to ensure this issue does not elevate further to cause more distress.
