Three Dead as Parts of Uttar Pradesh Witness Violent Clashes

SAHARANPUR, Uttar Pradesh, India—Three people have been reportedly killed while dozens others, including policemen, have been injured in violent clashes between two groups in Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. The clashes erupted earlier in the day, due to a property disputes.

The property in question is located next to a local Gurdwara. Balbir Singh Dheer, president of the Gurdwara has alleged the whole incident as a conspiracy to take over the land. He stated that a number of men gathered outside the Gurdwara and started pelting stones.  

A number of shops and public vehicles were set on fire during the confrontations that lasted for hours. Curfew remains imposed in Saharanpur, and some other parts of the state.  Some areas are still tense however police seem to have brought the situation under control to the most part.

Saharanpur is located nearly approximately 570 kilometers from Lucknow.
