Akalis Must Re-Consider Their Strategy of Ignoring Panthik Issues: Dhindsa

Sukhdev Dhindsa 1CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Witnessing comparatively poor performance of Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) in Lok Sabha elections 2014, its senior leader Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa has first time admitted that SAD has alienated itself from Panthik agenda for which it came into existence. In a statement issued on Saturday, he said that the party must re-look its strategy of ignoring issues important to the Sikhs.

“Besides being a political party, SAD is also associated with religious issues of Sikhs. Whether sidelining the Panthik agenda is fair or not must be reviewed”, he said, adding, “there are many reasons behind my defeat in Sangrur constituency and overall performance that was much poorer than the expectations of the party. Anti-incumbency is also a major factor in this regard.”

Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa lost at a big margin to Aam Aadmi Party’s Bhagwant Mann despite many attempts by Akalis to undermine AAP’s popularity.
