Police Bars “Bandi Singh Rehai March” in Bathinda

18438_mainBATHINDA, Punjab—The Bathinda Police today barred the “Bandi Singh Rehai March” that was planned to be performed by the Sikh Sangarsh Committee of Gurdwara Singh Sabha Bathinda. The marchers had announced their plan to walk to the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Bathinda, hoping to seek release of Sikhs illegally imprisoned despite having completed their jail sentences.

Sources in Bathinda say the police were adamant about stopping the march. They continued to delay marchers using various excuses. By early morning, a large number of police had already been deployed around Gurdwara Singh Sabha. Eventually all protestors inside were barred from marching.

Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal criticized the Akali Dal (Badal) for not giving their permission for the peaceful march. He asked Sikhs to boycott Akali Dal at all costs due to their anti-Panthik activities.

A number of other renowned Sikhs were also present to take part in the march.
