Martyrdom Anniversary of Shaheed Bhai Jaspal Singh Observed

GURADASPUR, Punjab—The second martyrdom anniversary of Sikh martyr Shaheed Bhai Jaspal Singh (Sidhwan, Gurdaspur) was observed Saturday, March 29, 2014 on a huge scale at his native village. A commemorative religious program held to mark the day was attended by Sikh devotees in large numbers.

After performing the Bhog conclusion ceremony of Sri Akhand Path Sahib, a devotional reading of Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal, Dhadi Tarsem Singh Moranwali, Bhai Baldev Singh Wadala, Bhai Gurkirpal Singh, and other Jatha groups, told stories of Sikh history to the Sikh Sangat congregated there.

Former Punjab Minister Sucha Singh Chhotepur,  the All India Sikh Students federation president Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad, Secretary of Punjab Congress Gurmeet Singh Pahra, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) of Amritsar, General Secretary Sukhjit Singh Kala Afghana, and many other noted personalities were also present for the occasion.

During their address, all speakers spoke of Bhai Jaspal Singh as great martyr of the Sikh nation. Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad, and Gurcharanjit Singh Bittu, father of Bhai Jaspal Singh, honored three students with the scholarship worth ₹11,000 each. These students were Vinod Kumar of Beant Engineering College Gurdaspur, Manjit Kaur of Tugalwal College and Jaspreet Singh of Bela College.
