Interview of Rahul Gandhi

NEW DELHI—In a TV interview with Arnab Goswami, Times Now Editor-in-Chief, Rahul Gandhi made a statement that some Congressmen were “probably” involved in the 1984 Government organized pogroms against Sikhs.  Rahul Gandhi later tried to retract his statement and refused to name any Congress leaders who he thought might have been involved in mass murders of Sikhs throughout India.

Gandhi, Vice President of the Indian National Congress, was asked by Goswami if he would apologize on behalf of his party about the massacre of Sikhs in 1984.  Rahul Gandhi avoided Arnab Goswami’s request and did not provide any clear cut response to any of his questions.

During the interview, Rahul further made the following statement, “In 1977 when my Grandmother lost the election… pretty much everyone had deserted my Grandmother but the Sikhs were standing with my Grandmother. I think the Sikhs are probably one of the industrious people in this country.”

Though Sikhs at one time may have stood by Indira, she was instrumental in ordering a military strike on the holiest Sikh shrine—the Harmandir Sahib in 1984.  The attack also claimed the lives of thousands of innocent pilgrims across Punjab for which the Gandhi family is yet to offer an apology.

This was the first time that Rahul Gandhi appeared in a TV interview and attempted to answer different questions.  Arnab Goswami preyed on Rahul completely however he was not able to receive straight answers to any of his questions.  It was probably not a wise move by Gandhi to accept the TV interview with Goswami as he is known to hold “interrogation” type interviews and maul personalities easily.

Arnab Goswami had earlier interviewed Jagdish Tytler, a senior member of the Congress party who is directly responsible in killings of Sikhs in New Delhi.  Arnab arranged for an open debate between Tyter and HS Phoolka, a senior Advance of the Delhi High Court.  Tytler had avoided a direct debate with S. Phoolka for a long time but Goswami provided a good platform for the latter to substantiate the lies of the Congress leader.
