British Government Provided Material Support to India in 1984 Sikh Genocide

LONDON, UK—Documentary evidence has emerged, 30 years on, of direct British Government assistance to the Indian Government in the June 1984 genocide of Sikhs in Punjab.

Top Secret UK government documents, released under the UK 30-year disclosure rule, reveal direct British Government military support to the Indian government in its preparation and carrying out of the notorious genocidal military onslaught on Punjab in June 1984.

“June 1984 resulted in tens of thousands of civilian deaths, disappearances and wider devastation. It was 9-11 many, many times over. It was India’s war on the Sikh nation.” Says Jagdeesh Singh of the 1984 Genocide Coalition.

“The above documents amount to explosive evidence of British government participation in this mammoth crime against humanity, and confirmation of what we suspected all along.”

The UK Government documents, dated 6th and 23rd February 1984, state that the Indian government has sought advice from the British Government on the removal of [so-called] “Sikh extremists from the Golden Temple in Amritsar” and the British Foreign Secretary has decided to “respond favourably to the Indian request”. A UK SAS military office was sent to assist the Indian government.

The documents were uncovered by Phil Miller, an independent journalist, who has researched and written on the very similar Tamil genocide in Sri Lanka and wider human rights issues.

Jagdeesh Singh says, “2014 is the 30thanniversary of the horrific 1984 genocide, during which 100,000 Sikhs were killed by the Indian state, as part of a two-pronged and two-phased genocidal onslaught in Punjab and Delhi on the Sikh population.”

1984 represents a horrific crime against humanity. The Indian government launched a direct, vicious war on Punjab in June 1984. 250,000 troops invaded and occupied Punjab. Over 1-6June 1984, they bombarded the Sikh national shrine of the Golden Temple in Amritsar with tanks and helicopter gunships.

Over 8,000 innocent Sikh men, women and children were viciously killed, their bodies stripped of clothing and belongings and then they were cremated en-mass. The entirety of Punjab was closed off from the world and turned into a mammoth concentration camp as Indian soldiers went through its entire 50,000 plus villages—arresting, torturing, killing and raping.

“The British Government has a direct hand in this mass murder!” said Singh. “The British Government has persistently sided with the Indian Government on all matters, wholly rejecting calls by Sikhs, Dalits, Kashmiris, Muslims and other communities within the Indian state for human rights and justice. These documents now confirm the depth of this murderous collusion.”

“The British government, as against ordinary British people, is guilty as hell. It has participated in the genocide of the Sikhs and many other peoples across the world in collusion with vicious governments like India. Both during the colonial period and still now, the British government persists in unethical global meddling, disruption, expansion and scheming,” he continued.
