CHANDIGARH, Punjab—After having fasted for 44 days to seek release of four Sikhs, Bhai Gurbaksh Singh along with the Singh Rehai (freedom) Committee constituted for the release of Sikh political prisoners have filed applications for permanent release of three Burail Jail Sikhs, namely Bhai Shamsher Singh, Gurmit Singh and Lakhwinder Singh.  These Sikhs were earlier released only on parole despite having completed their jail sentences.

In addition, it is likely that Bhai Waryam Singh, who is lodged in Bans Bareilly Jail, Uttar Pradesh, will be released permanently.  Bhai Waryam Singh is undergoing a life sentence and has been incarcerated for approximately 24 years.  He has never been released from prison in any shape or form.

The 6th Sikh prisoners, Bhai Gurdeep Singh, lodged in Central Jail, Gulburag, Karnataka, is likely to shift to a Punjab jail.  The five member committee will seek his parole once he is shifted.  Bhai Gurdeep Singh has been incarcerated since 6th December 1990. He has now been in jail in excess of 23 years.
