Eye-witness of Bhai Gurbaksh Singh’s Abduction

—Almost 24 hours ago, Sikh24 reported the breaking news of Bhai Gurbaksh Singh’s abduction from Gurdwara Amb Sahib.  Bhai Sahib was illegally picked up by the drunken policemen dressed in civilian clothes when he was in his 21st day of hunger strike.  Bhai Gurbaksh Singh’s arrested sent shocks to Sikh community living worldwide as he was using peaceful methods of raising awareness for the release of 7 Sikhs who have been illegally detained at prisons across India.

Bhai Gurbaksh Singh was admitted to Phase 6 Civil Hospital where the doctors tried to force feed him.  Within a few hours, he was transferred to the Ropar Jail.  Based on our discussion with Bhai Harpal Singh Cheema, Sikh24 had initially reported that a case was registered against Bhai Sahib under Section 309 of IPC however latest revelations state that section 107 (Abetment) and 151 (Unlawful Assembly) have been imposed upon him.  This is a smart move by the State Government as bail is not as easily available under these two sections as it is under 309.

Hunger Strike Continues

Some sources have confirmed that Bhai Gurbaksh Singh has continued with his campaign for justice while being imprisoned in Ropar Jail.  He had earlier told his acquaintances that if he is arrested, 5 Sikhs should go on hunger strike at once for 24 hours and a Panthik meeting should be called to discuss further course of action.  Immediately after his arrest, Bibi Manjit Kaur, Vice-Chairman of Shaheed Bhai Fauja Singh Trust and 4 other Gursikhs went on hunger strike for 24 hours.

Sikhs outside of Punjab to discuss further course of action

While Sikh Sangat has continued to address the issue at Gurdwara Amb Sahib, Sikhs living outside of Punjab and worldwide are also getting together to address the issue at hand.  As per a statement by Journalist Bhai Jarnail Singh, there will be a meeting of the Sikh Community tomorrow in New Delhi to discuss what can be done to support Bhai Gurbaksh Singh’s campaign against injustice.  We have learnt that similar meetings are also going organized in Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and other parts of the country.

Similar meetings are also said to have taken place in California, Vancouver and England.
