Dal Khalsa tells British PM to Apply Sri Lankan Policies to India

AMRITSAR SAHIB—Commenting on British PM David Cameron’s ‘hard talk’ with Mahinda Rajapaksa asking him to ensure credible, transparent and independent inquiry into alleged war crimes by March 2014 or face a UN investigation, the Dal Khalsa said what applies to Sri Lanka, applies to India too.

Party head H S Dhami said though their group believed that the participation of British PM in CHOGM summit was improper, however, since it looks that he had firmly taken up the cases of rights abuses with Lankan president, the Sikhs would eagerly wait till March to see how Cameron translates his words into action.

The leader of the pro-freedom SIkh group took the Lankan President Rajapaksa to task for rubbishing the UK’s call for an inquiry into the killings of innocent Tamils in the course of Lanka’s bloody battle with the LTTE.

He said, it was unfortunate that the successive British governments which witnessed the anti-Sikh massacre in November 1984, but despite a passage of 29 years, has chosen to remain silent. He said it was a death dance in broad day light, where thousands of Sikh men and women were butchered and women dishonored and shrines burnt.

After having failed to get justice from country’s political and legal system, the Sikhs too have been demanding the UN probe into the 1984 killings, he said.

“With the same yardstick as you had asked Sri Lankan president, we request you to prevail upon Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to ensure credible, transparent and independent international inquiry into November 1984 killings within specific time-frame”, said he.

Similarly, there is a gross violations of human rights of Kashmiris going on unabated since long. “Kashmiris were being harassed, their voices being suppressed and rights crushed with iron hand but ironically the West has maintained studied silence, he rued”.
