JALANDHAR, Punjab—World renowned Kirtani, Bhai Amrik Singh Zakhmi passed away yesterday evening. Bhai Sahib, known for singing classical kirtan renditions, was celebrated across the world for keeping traditional kirtan alive.
Bhai Zakhmi was based out of Jallandhar however he travelled extensively throughout the world doing kirtan seva. His passing away would be a big loss for the Khalsa Panth. Bhai Amrik Singh started doing kirtan seva along with his father Bhai Dharam Singh Zakhmi during 1960s.
Bhai Sahib was well verse in singing of puratan (traditional) tunes, partaals and instruments. Namely, he started his career by accompanying his father with dilruba.
Bhai Amrik Singh is said to have passed away due to a brain haemorrhage. Death of Bhai Amrik Singh Zakhmi has come 8 months after his wife, Bibi Hardarshan Kaur passed away due to ill health.
