AMRITSAR SAHIB—Appointed Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh, while taking a strong note of certain unscrupulous elements posting anti-religion comments, views and pictures on the internet has warned stern action against them. He said such acts are liable to provoke adverse reactions from members of the community.
Giani Gurbachan Singh’s statement came after morphed photographs of Guru Nanak Dev and Guru Gobind Singh were pasted on social networking sites. In a similar case, an individual from Moga had also posted derogatory and objectionable remarks on Sikh Gurus and posted them on the internet.
Jathedar said it is not only a problem for Sikhism but such elements make attempts to hurt the religious sentiments of members of other communities as well. It is a deliberate attempt to disturb communal peace and harmony, he added.
He asked the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Avtar Singh Makkar to take up the issue with Centre and state governments, demanding stern punishments for such individuals. His statement read, “Such activities are not only anti-religious but anti-national as well, as India is a secular country.”
