In-Depth 1984 Documentary Sorely Needed: Giani Raam Singh

AMRITSAR SAHIB—Remembering the martyrs of June 1984, Giani Raam Singh Khalsa addressed the sangat gathered at Gurdwara  Gur Shabad Parkash in Batala and emphasized the need to make a documentary film to educate the youth of today.

Describing the attacks on Darbar Sahib and Akal Takht Sahib of  June 1984 as fateful, he said that it was a painful reminder each year of the innumerable sacrifices made by Sikhs. He alleged that the attacks on Darbar Sahib as well as 37 other Gurdwaras were a part of a well planned conspiracy by the Indian Government.

Condemning the present condition of society he said that moral values have declined considerably and he put a special emphasis on raising the place of women in the country. Efforts need to be made to motivate the Sikh youth back to their roots by organizing Gurmat Parchar Lehars and Amrit Sanchar Lehars on a wide scale. To remove the menace of poverty in the country he announced free education to children of poor families. He spoke of  launching a chain of schools to serve the purpose, the first Khalsa Public School would be opened near Balachour.

He appreciated the construction of the newly built Operation Blue Star Memorial in Darbar Sahib complex. However Giani Ji termed the memorial as incomplete and said that it should depict the entire history of the Sikh struggle from 1978 to the present date, only then would it serve the desired purpose.

Paying his tribute to the martyrs in the ceremony he said that the teachings of Sant Jarnail Singh Khalsa Bhindrawale to become a true Khalsa in bani and bana need to be followed. Sadly, according to him, the Sikh leaders of today have become corrupt and are following selfish means for their own profit rather than working for the benefit of the community.
