Ragi Jathas Protest in Jammu for Being Neglected by SGPC

JAMMU, India—The Granthi Singhs, Raagis and other sevadars of Shriomani Gurdwara Singh Sabha held a protest outside Gurdwara Singh Sabha in Guru Nanak Nagar, Jammu demanding a raise in their salaries.

Expressing his grievances, Bhai Narinder Singh said that with the rising expenses in today’s world, Granthis and Raagis have to survive on meager salaries of Rs 3ooo-4000. The income is not sufficient to support their livelihood.

SGPC has a budget bigger than that of entire Punjab however it has continued to neglect the needs of its employees, especially those who are spreading the message of the Gurus.

The Raagi Singhs have been struggling for their demands for the last 3 months and have issued 4 letters to The District Prabandhak Commitee but their pleas have been falling on deaf ears. They alleged that only once were they provided a raise at Gurdwara Singh Sabha and Gurdwara Kalgidhar Rehari but soon their incomes were reverted back to original.

Daleep Singh (Head Distict Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee) has expressed total ignorance on this matter.

Interestingly with the inner conflict going on with Gurdwara Commitee of Jammu since 2009 the Government had provided an adhoc Commitee to manage affairs but since no elections were held since then, the control of various Gurdwaras is still run by the adhoc committee.
