LEAMINGTON SPA, Warwickshire, UK (November 15, 2012)—Every year, the Sangat of Leamington & Warwick holds an Akhand Path Sahib in memory of the Panthik Shaheeds – in particular an Ardaas for Shaheed Bhai Beant Singh, Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh, Shaheed Bhai Kehar Singh, Shaheed Bhai Harjinder Singh Jinda and Shaheed Bhai Sukhdev Singh Sukha is performed. Last year the Gurdwara’s management was exposed and humiliated for refusing to allow any remembrance of the Panth’s Shaheeds. The stage secretary had openly referred to Panth’s shaheeds as “terrorists.” One committee member was witnessed saying that “If we allow this Akhand Paath, then we cannot stop someone if they wish to do one for Indira Gandhi,”. Despite accepting their errors in front of Sikh Sangat, this year the management committee added a new twist to their anti-Panthik antics.
This year the Leamington & Warwick Gurdwara Sahib management asked the local Gursikhs that they would take charge of the Shaheedi Akhand Paath that was to take place from 2nd to 4th November. They promised to do the program on behalf of the whole Sangat. The local Panthik Gursikhs were pleasantly surprised and agreed on the condition that the Akhand Paath would honour the five Shaheeds in the Ardaas and that the booked Kavishri Jatha would be allowed to perform.
When the Head Granthi did the opening Ardaas for the Akhand Paath, he did not mention any of the Shaheed Singhs and instead made a generic reference to “Shaheeds”. Finally after much pressure from local sangat, the committee agreed to mention the Shaheed Singhs in the bhog Ardaas.
It is learned that a particular committee member had phoned Bhai Malkeet Singh Mast’s Kavishri Jatha and spoke to his son telling them that on Sunday they cannot mention any Shaheed Singhs’ name as per the decision of the Gurdwara Management Committee. Panthik leaders were informed of this who then put pressure on the committee leading them to ring the Jatha again. The committee finally proposed that they first sing praises of the Gurus; then only they could mention the Shaheed Singhs.
On Sunday, Ranjit Hayer, the General Secretary spoke for 45 minutes, which made most of the Sangat get up and leave the Darbar. Then he got the Head Granthi to do kirtan. It is believed that this was done to delay the time of the Kavishris and allow them less time to perform. By the time the Kivishri Jatha performed at 11.25am, only 60 or 70 people were left in the Darbar Sahib.
The next week, the prominent Jagowala Jatha was booked by local Gursikhs to perform at Leamington & Warwick Gurdwara Sahib. Having heard about the committee’s misdeeds from last week from the kavishri jatha, the Jagowala Jatha was committed to speak the truth and expose the falsehood at Leamington & Warwick Gurdwara Sahib.
On 11th November when the Jagowala Jatha came on stage they sang about Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji’s jeevan and the role of Chandu in Sikh history. Within their parchar they exposed how government agents have infiltrated Sikh institutions and gurdwaras. Hearing the truth and fearing that their anti-Sikh activities are being exposed, the management committee told the booking secretary that from now all dhadis and kavishris will be banned. Bhai Kulwant Singh Dhadhi (Willenhall) was booked to perform on Sunday 30th December, however he was informed that his programme has been cancelled without any reason given.
Currently no Kathavachaks do Katha at Leamington & Warwick Gurdwara Sahib. So, now it seems only keertan will be allowed on the stage and any preaching that is done must be first censored by the anti-Panthik/alcohol-drinking committee members. It is a sad state of affairs how our Sikh gurdwaras have been hijacked by anti-Sikh government agents and are bleeding Sikhi drop by drop.
