—During an Akhand Path Sahib at Gurdwara Guru Arjan Dev Ji in Sahnewal, Punjab at 10 PM on 30 August 2012, around 10 Bihari men entered and attacked the Granthi Singh named Ajmer Singh who was doing pathh. They then proceeded to tear Angs 393 and 394 from Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj. The attack was then reported to the Police and a suspect was arrested.
The suspect, named Dalip, was taken to the local Police Station where he has been subsequently shot by a Sikh youth named Mandeep Singh. The youth was also arrested, along with another youth.
Bhai Balbir Singh “Mucchal” who is head of Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Committee provides a full report of the incident. Bhai Mucchal alleged that despite this news being broadcast by TV stations, neither SGPC officials nor the Jathedars have reached the spot on time.
This incident is especially hurtful as the Sikh Sangat is celebrating the Parkash Utsav of Guru Granth Sahib.
