Sikh Community Opposes Racist KKK Memorial in USA

Selma, Alabama, USA—The Sikh Community stands united against any hate memorials that are in the plans to be erected in the United States.  Sikh24 has learned that a monument may be erected in remembrance of Nathan Bedford Forrest, one of the founding fathers of the Ku Klux Klan.

Forrest was notorious for massacres of black soldiers during the American Civil War and it was on his behest that State and Local police attacked 600 activists fighting for the voting rights of African Americans.  The following years included one of the most brutal ever experienced by American history.

It took countless struggles by those like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and others to fight for the civil rights of non-Whites.  During this time, the African American community had to suffer immensely to secure basic human rights and now if these memorials are erected, they would be seen a direct blow to the sacrifices made by African Americans and other communities to secure peace.

Although the American Constitution has long supported human rights for all, minority communities have continued to suffer at the hands of supremacist groups.  Earlier this month, a right wing terrorist opened fire at a Sikh Gurdwara (place of worship) in Oak Creek, WI and killed 6 innocent Sikhs.

Sikh24 Editors urge readers to stand united against any hate campaign, regardless of who is being targeted.  A petition has been started by Change.org, requesting Selma, AB city council to stop the plans for the monument.  The petition is available at this link: http://www.change.org/petitions/selma-city-council-no-more-monuments-to-kkk-hate

  1. Man I HATE to Educate People who are Illeterate Historically! NB Forrest was NOT a Founder of the KKK, he was elected the Grand Wizard of the KKK in Nashville before he was even Initiated into the Group. When Southerns got there Right to Vote and Bear Arms in 1869, He DISBANNED the Group and everything since then has NOT been the TRUE KKK. The only time HISTORICALLY that blacks were known to have been killed by Forrest’s Men, was at Fort Pillow and that was ONLY after the Black Soldiers SURRENDERED on the Mississippi River bank then PICKED up their guns and started shooting the Confederate Captores in the back! Forrest NEVER had at his Control ANY LOCAL or STATE Police, therefore He could NOT have Commanded an attack on 600 activists. The Voters rights for Blacks happened 100 years later. Bedford DIED in the 1800’s.

  2. The SIKH community is dead wrong about Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest. Do not
try to change our Bill of Rights – our FREEDOM is important to us and you have never fought for it – my ancestors did in both wars for their Independence. Now you come along years later speaking of something you know nothing about and furthering discrimination and intolerance towards the Southern Confederate American. Gen Forrest was a better person than you will ever be. Get the history right before you start another Civil War here.

You’re dead right as most of Sikh do not understand and know how to live in civilization. Most of the Sikhs follow Jungle law. Sikhs are wrapped up in smuggling the drugs and humans. Sikhs are unfit for civilized society as do not reapect its own religion teaching.

I gave up on Sikhs in Punjab, India and came to live in America with peace but after 1984 the 99% Criminal Sikhs (Human animals) entered with false and fraudulent oaths and degraded honest, respected and hard working law abiding Sikhs. Such type of Sikhs must read own history, check and collect their own community crimes for record.

America is most decent country with utmost consideration for human race.

      Dedicated Sikh
